a little oklahoma antiquing ...........

Meet my friend Tiffany...........you would think that we have known each other forever but not really........early spring at the Whatever House at Terri Brush's art camp I met this gal....immediately it felt like we have known each other for years....she has just that kind of personality that when you meet someone you know they are genuine, honest, thoughtful, always positive, super super talented and someone you want to hang around with........anyway she moved from Washington to Oklahoma about 4-5 years ago and bought a huge ranch outside of Oklahoma City in the small town of Wellston........ I have lived in Oklahoma for over 40 years and really don't go exploring in other small towns but this girl let me tell you she does and knows the best of the best!  She can find the best deals and scouts out like no other one I know and just knows what she is doing......so yesterday I headed up to Wellston to spend the day with her and to see her home and studio ......... we were going to play in her studio for a while, go get lunch and then do a little shopping........well it ended up eating lunch at this really cute cafe in Meeker called the Farmer's Daughters Cafe and antiqued shopped the rest of the afternoon, next time we will create in her fun studio and I will have photos of it another time........anyway getting back to the antique shopping their are literally the most amazing antique stores all around that area and the people running them are so so friendly.....and she has become friends with all of them.....that is just the way she is..... personable, friendly and the sweetest ever! Here are a few photos below of where we went and one of my treasures found!!!!!

This particular store had a restaurant in the front but had to close during the pandemic, so she has turned it into a classroom and event room......it is so so cool....but someone may turn it back into a restaurant but for now it is being used for other uses.......The owner is Sandy and she is a sweetheart ...........can't wait to go back up!

I could go on and on about all of these shops .......it definitely makes you wonder about how many hidden treasures are out there to be found if you just go exploring.....thank You Tiffany for the adventure.......

You know how much I love big velvet family albums......well this one is the cat daddy.........it is in almost perfect condition. The velvet isn't worn, the photo on the front isn't damaged like most of them, the hinge works and on top of all that it is on a stand and has a hidden drawer........

So this is what happened on Friday and I enjoyed every minute.......hoping to go back soon to explore some more in those small Oklahoma towns........treasures to be found I am sure!

student work.........

I always love it when a student has taken a class and takes photos to share of the project.........like this one....this one was created by Annette Smith Tyler.  She used an old chenille bedspread, dyed it, made the bag then added her shrink panel.........she did a great job.......like I said you give these gals a little instructions and they just start creating something wonderful....thank You Annette.

I hope some more of you have finished the project....I love posting what you all have made to share on the blog.........in your kit my information was on the postcard if you want to send photos text or email me I would love it.........

A little Wednesday Whimsy...................

Several years ago I bought some fun fabric with these whimsical figures....this is the new edition from the same designer.......when I bought them I knew somehow I would incorporate a little shrink.......first I lined them and did the quilting around each figure and then added all of the fun trim, buttons, shrink, fabric and fuzzy thread for the little boys hair.....

Anyway I just thought I would share these fun pillows with you...........Happy Whimsical Wednesday.............

whew..........busy busy busy......

When we got home last Monday from the weekend in Waco it was my moms 92 birthday........the kids were coming  so we decided to do her birthday celebrating later in the week.. we had a birthday dinner party here at the house.........My mom also received one of Jenn 's custom dolls............

As you can see my mom loves to garden, sew and play cards with her friends........Jenn is so detailed in her dolls I hope you can see the tiny gardening gloves, shovel, sun hat, pin cushion and of course the playing cards.  Mom has already found a special place to enjoy her doll.....thanks Jenn !

And that is how we celebrated last week...........the week always goes by fast when the kids are here....we did manage to do a bunch of business/family stuff but we also started going through closets and etc to start and declutter everything that has accumulated for 22 years in this house.........our goal is to get everything gone through that we can inside until this heat breaks, then we can go up into the 2 attics and start cleaning those up....we have already had 1 load  taken away!  It feels so good so I hope it continues........we will see!  I think Tom shredded papers and documents for several hours yesterday and saturday.............why in the world do we keep so much stuff.......well we want it all GONE!!!!!!!!!

shrink button fun......

Cindy knows how much I love donuts so to start the morning off on saturday she made sure we had donuts....not just donuts but cronuts! If you don't know what a cronut is it's a croissant and donut in one....thats all I will say!

A little story on the two photos below...........these two sweet gals were in the first class and I walked by their table and they said LOOK at our bracelets.........well I thought they had taken one of Julie Haymakers bracelet classes and they said no we bought them from you at Glitter Market several years ago when we use to have Glitter Market in OK.........to say the least I felt like a dork!!!! We all got a chuckle out of it!  Thanks you two!

I think that wraps up our weekend at the Paper Crown in Waco.........loved every minute with all of you and appreciate you attending my classes!  Hope to return sometime in the future and to see you all again.........for now keep creating and have fun shrinking............I would love to see what you all did with them...... send me photos and I will share them on the blog.......

fun fun fun in waco.............

For today I just wanted to share these two photos and one more....... to let ALL of these creative gals how much fun it was to have then in class and for making their way to the Paper Crown in Waco to take a class from this Okie!  You all did an amazing job and were so creative in your pencil work on your shrink buttons.....I am always just amazed at how talented and creative they are  when you just give them a little instructions, a kit and then they just start in .........THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU...........

 

Thank you to someone who makes this all possible.....Cindy Lou........she goes above and beyond to make classes so special and always puts the teacher and students first.....We all love and appreciate all she does to make this creative world a little more fun and special......

I will have more photos of class students etc. tomorrow but for today I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who came to Waco this past weekend!  I loved every minute even in the middle of a heat wave.......

gold and silver shrink..

I ordered gold and silver shrink a while back from Julie Haymaker and have used it a little but not really experimented with it.....so I pulled some out and have had the best time just seeing how it makes the color look so different from regular shrink...in the second photo you can see a little sparkle.......the silver gives it a more subtle color and the gold is really bold.....any way just thought I would share a few photos........

fabric obsession......

Just when you think they could not come up with any more awesome fabric........just look at what Tilda has come up with........I have always loved her soft colors and designs.  This one just blows me away though!  If you live in the OKC metro or around this area stop by the Oklahoma Quiltwork store to check out the Tilda truck show........this new line are all ready to be used and  I cannot wait to start creating!

I don't even know which is my favorite because I had to have all of them.

happy weekend..........

Yesterday we headed to our local 4th of July parade and met up with all of Tom's side of the family with Aunts, Uncles, brother in laws, sister in laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.......look at these little guys and gals...

As you can see by their red cheeks it was a little warm but they managed to have fun and we all didn't melt in the 100 degree weather....
