Well it's not anywhere exotic or international but it is Central California Coast, Pebble Beach and it's just as gorgeous ..........My husband had a business meeting there so we decided why not take a few extra days and hit San Luis Obispo where I was raised and thing swing by Salt Lake City on the way home to see the kids.......so we did! Because we drive and see along the way we had the best time and gone 2 weeks!!!! Yes 2 weeks. A record for us and had not taken that long of time off since Adam was 10 years old.......so we did it!!!! We covered a lot of black top........we relaxed, ate wonderful food, stitched a lot going out, saw so many old friends in SLO, shopped a little and just had the best time! The place we stayed at in Pebble Beach was beautiful and the grounds were unbelievable!
Of course it's a golfer's paradise........you can eat outside at each of their restaurants! And we did!!!!
After a fun and amazing time on the California coast we headed north to Salt Lake City to spend some time with our kids........as we were headed into Lake Tahoe there was still snow everywhere on the mountains and a lot of snow........I guess we are so use to already having warm weather in Oklahoma that we just forget how much different the weather is in the mountains.....and so is Utah still covered high in the mountains remaining snow......
Our Kids moved to Salt Lake over a year ago for Caryn to start PA school at the University of Utah. The program is 28 months so they have a little over a year left. They may stay around for a little longer so she can continue to work in SLC.....While living in SLC they still kept their place in GOlden Colorado but had the change to sell it this winter so they did and bought a place in SLC. The most darling house just right for them and it was so fun to see it for the first time. It had just been gutted and refinished so everything is brand new. Real Estate is as high in Salt Lake as in Golden......
When we arrived Caryn was in class so Adam gave us a tour, we had lunch and then waited for Caryn......we grilled out the first night and our Son is a great chef. He cedar planked grilled some Salmon and picked the herbs out of his garden to garnish the top with Arugula salad and homemade dressing to go along with it.......some bread and dined outside! The weather was perfect the entire time we were there.........
and meet Wyatt........or as they call him Ween! This is Caryn's dog and he is a dandy......So stinking smart!
They have it fixed up really cute and are enjoying living in SLC!
So the next day I had called Miss Nan Nix who just moved to Francis Utah in December to see if we could meet up .......... Caryn was in class all day and Tom and Adam had some things they wanted to do! She came and picked me up and we headed I think north into the mountains....... she drove me by her house and then we went to lunch .........the cutest and best little Biscuit Place...
The best biscuits and grits I have ever had........so if you are ever in SLC and want to visit our sweet friend Nan she will take you to some of the best little places around!!! We had so much fun visiting while we ate.........then we headed to one of her favorite places to shop for fabric and wool .......and oh my goodness!!! I can't believe we didn't take any photos.....in fact the photos above are horrible because I took them off my phone with my camera.....but anyway we were so excited about the quilt store and all the hand dyed wool we neither one took any photos........let's just say we hit the honey hole at this store.... My Girlfriends Quilt shop in I think it was called Midtown,or Midway but anyway it is incredible...... this little store in a tiny town tucked away in an old house, how did she ever find this I don't know but I think she was smelling the wool from a distance....... to say the least I did a LITTLE damage in there......I will have a few things to show you soon! After we hit the wool store we headed back to SLC and we had to say goodbye! What a fun way to spend an afternoon with one of my favorite people! We miss Nan in OKC but I think she is enjoying her new home and surroundings with her family and I can see why......Thanks again sweet friend I had the best time!
The next morning we decided to head back home and said good bye to our kids........before we left Adam had been talking about this wonderful bakery that he and Caryn discovered and said it was the best croissants he had ever tasted and he has been all over the world.......so we stopped at TULIE BAKERY..........and of course he was right! Nan said the same thing about this place.......well it's a good thing we don't have one of these close because I wouldn't be able to fit through the front door!!!! If you are ever in Salt Lake if you don't go anywhere but here it is well worth the trip.........their Almond croissants are to die for......and I am not just saying that they are so good!
So now that I am relaxed and rested I hope to get my brain back on track..........Hopefully I will have a few things to show you this week that I have made while the many miles in the car........I am hoping to have a few ideas on a few classes this summer......so check back!
Enjoy your holiday.......
