friday in oklahoma...........

 

We had a full  house last night and they all worked really hard  to get these Valentine Mystery Books completed..........

 

 

Of course these two finished in record time and they were out the door......

 

 

 

 

 

Trying to get this group to take a photo took a while but I think I got everyone looking at me and we could see all faces.........they really did do a fantastic job on these cute little mystery books.  If you don't know what a Mystery Book is.........All they see when they sign up for the class is the front cover.  The inside is all a surprise until they show up for class.  This kit had so many different pieces and was a little much at first but they all just dug in and worked all evening inbetween stopping by the big giant heart cookie.  (Thanks to the Pioneer Womans recipe for this cookie.)

THe weekend is upon us and I have plans to hopefully finish up some projects and concentrate on staying warm.........we are in for another round of COLD SNowy WEatheR.........one thing about it we can't do anything about our weather, but we can at least stay in and CrEaTE, and that is just what I will be doing!  Happy Weekend the first one of February...............!

 

ANd one last thing REMEMBER tomorrow registration starts for the Paper Crown's First Glittered Retreat!

busy on dolls..........

 

 

As  you can see I am working on class kits and the online Danita doll class..........I have multiple doll bodies and limbs and shrink plastic  all over my work room.........it has been really fun so far.  Danita goes step by step and really explains in detail every thing she is doing.  I am now ready to paint the faces  which is going to be the hardest part..........she makes it look so easy!  Oh well I will show the progress when I get there.

Sorry........I forgot to tell you to bring your paper cutter........because each of your books will be different sizes I won't be able to pre cut your inside pages, so you will need to bring one.  If you don't have one I will bring mine and Cindy has one, or if you would like to just use a ruler you can just cut or tear your pages.  Whatever you want your pages to look like.  See you thursday night at 5:30!

Valentine Mystery Class.........

 

For those of you taking this class on thursday evening Jan 30 you will need to bring your basic kit plus a pink distress ink pad ( if you don't have one Cindy ordered some) gold leaf pen, small photo to put in the front frame, any love letters or photos of your loved ones......any type of ephemera having to do with hearts, love, wedding.........and of course your book cover......we will be tearing out the inside of the book and just using the front and back covers......save the inside of the book if you want to use some of those pages.  This book is something that we have done before and I love how everyone has their own style........see you girls on thursday evening at 5:30 sharp!

I am 90% finished but still have to tweek a few things......when I do I will try to get a few photos during the day.  I took these last night after class and mostly through the glass!  She was really fun to do this time and of course we have to Thank one of the most talented artist their is Catherine Moore!  Thanks Catherine for the inspiration you give us all through your wonderful line of stamps!

 

Talking about last night we had another great group of gals in class.........How much fun and we had a huge surprise...........Wednesday afternoon Cindy  called me and said she had one more to sign up but when this person called she couldn't understand her name so she told me just to make an extra kit and have the name tag ready to put her name on it when she arrived............well when I walked in a little early to finish Girdie Cindy met me at the door and said the new person  had already arrived.......when I walked back into the classroom it was our long lost friend Maria from Georgia........it had been way to long since she had taken a class at the PC....because of some family situations she wasn't able to come for almost 2 years..........so she decided to make it back and we were all thrilled to see her once again.

Maria with Nan.....they made an instant friendship sitting by each other!

 

 

 

And would you believe that Cindy M. snuck out before I could get her photo.........I'm gonna get her!  Anyway we had a wonderful time creating these Valentine Banners using some more of the Character Construction Cirque stamps..............Thanks girls for always coming into class  working so hard and I hope having a great time, your all the best students here at the Paper Crown!

Raspberry Thumbprint Cookies..........

 

How bout a easy really good buttery cookie recipe.........

 

Raspberry Butter Thumbprint Cookie

 

1 cup softened butter

1/2 cup sugar

2 1/2 cups flour

1 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp. raspberry extract ( optional)

Raspberry jam

white chocolate

 

Beat the butter and sugar with the vanilla.  Add the flour and mix until blended and crumbly ( I added some pink food color because of Valentine's Day). Roll into balls and then roll in sugar. Place on parchment paper 2" apart and make indention in the middle of each cookie with the back of a measuring spoon.  I rolled these in light pink sanding sugar.  Bake at 350 for 10 min. take out and fill each indention with 1 tsp. raspberry jam.  Return to oven and bake for 2 min.  Take out and cool.  Melt white chocolate and drizzle on top of each cookie.

  

 

 

 

 

 

So super easy and really good!

new books........

 

 

If your like me , I am always trying to find new ways to keep classes interesting........seems like I am always doing the same thing over and over but ever so often I am on the lookout for new ideas.  Usually I start by  going into the big book store B & N and just sitting and looking at their selection of art book!  Sometimes one just grabs you and other times nothing appeals to me............since Christmas I have stumbled upon several books ........reading different blogs is another good way to find out about these artists . Not to long ago Pam Garrison had this Image Transfer Book by Coutney Cerruti on her blog. I have always been interested in transfers so I ordered one.  Last night I experimented with things I already had and had fun with these images.........I would love to teach a class but you always run into the time it takes to dry and that always seems to be a problem, unless it was a full days class, and that might be a possibility sometime.

I used some of my Paper Whimsy images because they transfer well.  You have to make sure your image is laser print and not inkjet.  THe instructions in the book are wonderful and very easy to follow.  I highly recommend the book.

 

Two of the books I picked up when the OKC Quilt show was here a few weeks ago.  I haven't gotten into those two yet but excited to start.  Another Place and Time by Maggie Bonanomi and My Name is Lidya by Stacy Nash............( projects for maybe Glitter Market??????)

The other one is Acrylic Techniques in mixed media, layer, scribble, stencil, stamp by Roxanne Padgett!

I hope some of these new techniques will show up in future classes.

Banner Class will be this thursday Jan 23, and we are keeping our fingers crossed the weather doesn't decide to act up!
